6 - Day Mt Kilimanjaro Climbing - Marangu Route

The Marangu route, also known as the "Coca-Cola" route, is the oldest, most well-established route on Kilimanjaro. Many favor Marangu because it is considered to be the easiest path on the mountain, given its gradual slope and direct path. However, the short time frame of the route makes altitude acclimatization slightly more difficult. The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. This is the only route that offers sleeping huts in dormitory-style accommodations in lieu of camping.

Day by Day

Day 1

Kilimanjaro Hiking

You will be pick at 8:00am from hotel to Marangu gate (1,860 m) takes 2hrs. Registrations, meet your guide and porters then pack all equipment’s. Takes 1hrs to 2hrs.The path is wide and formed with gravel a bit steep but the forest is amazing, very pretty with little stream, picturesque and little waterfalls.Lunch will be at Kisamboni picnic area, In 2hrs you will reach Mandara Huts. Mandara Hut easily meets your needs in the best possible way.

Day 2

Kilimanjaro Hiking

In the morning you will start walking through the forest. Soon there will be no more trees. In moorland the dominating plant is heather.You will get good views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks.Through the hills across a few dry creeks. Dinner and overnight stay at Horombo Huts.

Day 3

Kilimanjaro Hiking

This day you will spend Horombo Hut. To acclimatize or get used to the altitude. So the time you spend at this hut will help you. The walking you will do is to Mawenzi Peak base. The duration of this round trip walk comes in between 4 to 5hrs.You sleep in dormitories with quite restricted facilities. At night all final climb preparation of the Summit is done. Porters help you repack any items only the necessary.Dinner and overnight is at Kibo Hut.

Day 4

Kilimanjaro Hiking

In the morning, you continue climbing uphill the vegetation ends and passing several water streams. Soon you reach Last Water Point at 4200. You will cross many ridge uphill to the Saddle. Lunch then 2hrs climb to Kibo Hut. You will be surprised the path doesn't look steep but hike turns into a major effort.Dinner and overnight at Kibo Huts.

Day 5

Kilimanjaro Hiking

This is the day that you’ve been waiting for so get well prepared for Uhuru peak.Wake up at 11.00 and 11.30 pm. Get ready with your gear once you had breakfast. Around midnight start the hike to the summit you will see strings of little lights for climbers ahead of you.A group of wooden huts in a forest clearing. Dinner and overnight stay at Horombo Huts.

Day 6

Kilimanjaro Hiking

After breakfast you set continue descending down. Lunch at Mandara Huts then descent to Marangu Gate.After a hard trek of Kilimanjaro drive back to Moshi you will spend the night at Bristol Cottages.
